Ice hockey player

Ryan Alexander Borden Smyth (born February 21, 1976) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played most of his career for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was especially known for playing in the style of a power forward. He has been one of the owners of the BCHLSpruce Grove Saints since 2017.[1]

During his junior career, Ryan Smyth spent three years with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League (WHL), scoring 105 points during the 1993–94 season. Smyth was then drafted 6th overall in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers. That year he played only three games for the Oilers, as he stayed for the majority of the year in Moose Jaw. He spent 12 seasons with Edmonton before being traded to the New York Islanders in 2007 due to failed contract negotiations. Becoming an unrestricted free agent in the subsequent off-season, he signed a five-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche. After two seasons with the team, he was traded to the Los

Speed. Edges. Grace. He has it all. Ryan Smith, born in the small Ontario town of Orillia, can twizzle the pants off anyone. Ryan has stood on many ice dance podiums all over the world. I met the superstar skater Ryan Smith in the Calgary airport on the way home from the 2000 Nationals in Calgary. Officially meeting Ryan Smith was a magical moment for me as I had admired his skating prowess for some time.

Let’s set the scene shall we:
Event: Official meeting with Ryan Smith, uber ice dancer
Time: 6am on the day after the Closing Gala
Location of uber star: Lying, half on, half off a big pile luggage on the floor of the Calgary airport. NB. Skates are not comfortable to lie on. That’ll leave a mark.
I said: “Can I get you some water?”
Result: Friends Forever

Lesson Learned: Pouring your heart and soul into four thrilling performances (+ gala) can sure make you tired. It must be, as Ryan was so exhausted that he had to be dragged from the small dirty patch of airport linoleum which he fell asleep on to make the flight home.

Mystery: Ryan Smith - Wonderland

Jamie Thomas knew what he was doing when he picked up Canadian-born Ryan Smith: Zero Skateboards: Dying to Live - Ryan Smith. ("The whole point of Classics is to revisit sick parts as well as introduce them to skaters who never saw them the first time. Ryan's footage has aged well and he's even gnarlier than we remember. Here's his part from the 2002 Zero vid." - Thraser Magazine). Smith went on to ride for Mystery Skateboards (Black Box Distribution). And his part from Black and White is too sick (spoiler alert: he skates to The Yardbirds): Mystery Skateboards: Black and White - Ryan Smith.

Art inspiration: The Queen of Hearts, a fictional character from the book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, is a foul-tempered monarch whom Carroll himself describes as "a blind fury." The Queen is quick to give death sentences at the slightest offense.

Note: This item, which is part of a three-deck series, is extremely rare. It was manufactured by Black Box Distribution, which went out of business.
