Dato' Seri (Dr.) Mohammed Anwar Fazal Mohammed atau Anwar Fazal ialah aktivis alama sekitar dan pengasas Persatuan Pengguna Pulau Pinang (CAP) . Sumbangannya adalah kepada bidang alam sekitar dari segi pengurusan, perniagaan, penyelidikan, akademik serta penulisan.[1][2]
Beliau mencetuskan idea Hari Tanah Lembab Sedunia yang disambut pada 2 Februari setiap tahun. Fazal tokoh yang paling berpengaruh dalam pergerakan pengguna seluruh dunia.
Kehidupan awal
[sunting | sunting sumber]Anwar Fazal dilahirkan pada 15 Julai 1941 di Sungai Bayor, Selama, Perak, Malaysia.Beliau anak sulung daripada 7 adik-beradik (3 lelaki dan 4 perempuan). Keluarganya berpindah ke bandar Taiping (1942) kerana kegawatan Perang Dunia II. Keluarganya menjalankan perniagaan 'Fazal Mohamad Brothers' di 112 Main Road, Taiping (kini berpindah ke 111 Chulia Street, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia).

Dr. Abul Fazal Mohammad Anwar (goes by "Dr. Mehdi Anwar") currently serves as a Full Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department. He earned his Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering at Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY in 1988. He has served as the Associate Dean for Research & Graduate Education, School of Engineering, (2006 -2009), founding Director of the Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence (2007-2009), interim Director of the Connecticut Global Fuel Cell Center (2007-2009) and interim Department Head of ECE (1999-2001). He was an IPA (July ’04 – August ’05) at the Sensors Directorate, Hanscom Air Force Base, working on advanced metamorphic HEMTs and GaN-based HFETs pioneering the design of low noise antimony-based-compound-semiconductor (ABCS) HEMTs. He has presented over 40 plenary and invited talks at national/international conferences, published over 240 research articles and book chapters and edited 9 volumes. Anwar Fazal (born 15 July 1941 in the village of Malaysia) is a leading civil society activist in multiverse issues including consumer, health, environment, urban governance, heritage and peace. In 1982, he was awarded the Right Livelihood Award for "fighting for the rights of consumers and helping them to do the same."[1]
In 1978, he became the first person from the Third World to become president of the International Organization of Consumers Unions (IOCU).[2][1] In the following years he became a crucial figure in the international consumer movement, founding several global networks, which he called “a new wave of the consumer movement.”[2][1] These included the International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN), founded in 1979; the Health Action International (HAI), created in 1981; and the Pesticide Action Network (PAN), formed in 1982.[1]
