Lita Baron, nacida como Isabel Castro[1] (Almería, España, 11 de agosto de 1929 - Palm Springs, Estados Unidos, 16 de diciembre de 2015) fue una actriz que destacó como estrella de cine en los primeros tiempos de Hollywood.
Biografía
[editar]Isabel Castro abandonó su ciudad natal, Almería, en 1933, a los 4 años de edad, para emigrar junto a su familia a Estados Unidos.
Su primera incursión en el mundo del espectáculo fue de la mano de Xavier Cugat con quien cantó en el Trocadero, presentándose con el nombre artístico de Isabelita. Ya en 1943 se fijaría en ella el actor Francis Timothy McCown, quien más tarde triunfaría con el nombre artístico de Rory Calhoun, mientras Lita cantaba junto a la orquesta de Cugat en San José (California).
Poco después, en 1945, fue contratada por RKO Pictures para aparecer en el que sería su primer largo, Pan-Americana. Like Charo, Baron was from Spain, not Latin-America, though she benefitted from the Latin Craze of the 1940s and ’50s which also made stars of female performers as diverse as Carmen Miranda,Olga San Juan,Dolores Del Rio, Maria Montez, Lupe Velez (revived a career in her case), and others. For years she sang with Xavier Cugat and had a solo nightclub act, billed as “Isabelita”, the source of her shortened professional name. Her movie career began in the mid ’40s and lasted about a dozen years. She was almost exclusively cast as Mexican senoritas with names like Lupita, Chiquita, and Chi-Chi. Early life
Baron was born Isabel Castro in Almería, Spain, on August 11, 1923, and emigrated to United States with her family in 1928. Her parents were Pedro and Francesca Castro.[2]
After moving, the family lived in River Rouge, Michigan,[1] where she attended River Rouge High School.[3]
