Edward Ellis OBITUARY

Edward Ellis III, 44, of Avoca, passed away Friday, March 25, 2011, at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore.

He was born in Avoca on June 1, 1966, and was the son of Edward J. Ellis and the late Barbara Kerechuk Ellis, who passed away April 5, 2008.

Edward was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Avoca.

He was a 1985 graduate of Pittston Area High School.

Edward worked for the Radisson and Holiday Inn hotels and was currently working for McDonald’s Restaurant, Old Forge.

He enjoyed attending area car shows and loved to discuss local current events with friends and family.

In addition to his mother, Barbara Kerechuk Ellis, Edward was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Theodore (Feathers) Kerechuk; and paternal grandparents, Jule Ellis and Edward S. Ellis.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Ethel Gregorski Kerechuk; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday from Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30

Edward Mayne Ellis (November 12, 1870 – July 26, 1952) was an American actor. He played the title role in The Thin Man, as well as in A Man to Remember.

Career

He made his first stage appearance in 1879 in Chicago. He was an actor, playwright and producer on Broadway before going into films. His first adult performance was in Mary and John in 1905. He toured all over America and also played in England. Edward Ellis was a dramatic author and also wrote the playscript for the 1934 play Affair of a Gentleman.[citation needed]

Summers in Grand Haven, Mich., were great for Edward Ellis, III, D.D.S., M.S. “When I was in high school and college, my summer job was to run the concession stand my father owned at Grand Haven State Park. In fact, I lived in a nice apartment above the concession stand during those months,” he said.

The park is on the western bank of Lake Michigan, which offers a sandy beach during the warmer months and access to a white desert of ice in the winter. It was the perfect vacation hangout, said Dr. Ellis, now a professor and chairman of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) in the School of Dentistry at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio.

In fact, his teens were so relaxing that he had some difficulty picking a major for college. “I really couldn’t decide. Finally, my dad said, ‘Why don’t you become a dentist like your Uncle Joe?’ He was my dentist, and it looked like a good living, so I tried it,” Dr. Ellis said.
