For Comedian Henry Cho, making the most of who he is has not been a problem. I’m an Asian with a Southern accent, remarks Cho. To a lot of people, that right there is funny.

Cho, who is Korean American, was born in Knoxville, TN and went into stand-up comedy in 1986 with the goal of getting into films. He moved to Southern California in 1989 to pursue his career, but always with the intent of returning to his roots in Tennessee. I planned to live in LA until I reached a level I was comfortable with and then get out of there, comments Cho.

In 1994, after he moved to a farm in the Nashville area, Cho got the call from NBC to host NBC’s Friday Night Videos which he did by commuting to LA weekly for two years.

While in LA, Cho became a regular guest/comedian on such shows as The Tonight Show and The Arsenio Hall Show. His TV credits also include guest roles on various sitcoms such as CBS’ Designing Women and Lenny, The New WKRP in Cincinnati and a starring role in FOX’s TV movie, Revenge of the Nerds III: The

Biography

Stand-up comedian Henry Cho was born in Tennessee. After high school he moved to California to pursue his career. He landed the role of Sam on "Designing Women" (CBS, 1986-1992). He later got a starring role in the film "Revenge of the Nerds III: The Next Generation" (1992). Beginning in 1994, Cho was host of "Friday Night Videos" (NBC, 1982-2001) and did that for two years. In 2001 Cho earned the role of Freddy in "Say It Isn't So" and then as Ned Nakamori in "Material Girls" (2006). More recently, Cho was in the film "The Farmer and the Belle: Saving Santaland" (2020). Cho has indicated that it is important to him to take a family-friendly approach to comedy, keeping profanity and offensive language out of his routines.

Cho was just 21 when he lucked into a slot in a New York comedy competition. He and a college buddy sketched out some material while driving to the club. The number of busted guts and bodies rolling into the aisles impressed the club enough to book Cho for two days later. That was back in 1986. It kicked off a blazing career that has landed him on countless national comedy shows, as both guest and host, as well as in a half-dozen movie roles.
