Biografia
[modifica | modifica wikitesto]Nasce nel 1961 a Bobo-Dioulasso in Burkina Faso. Frequenta l'Istituto Africano di Studi Cinematografici e ottiene nel 1985 il diploma in regia. Prosegue gli studi a Parigi, dove consegue un diploma e un master in Estetica del cinema e un diploma all'École International d'Anthropologie. Realizza nel 1989 il suo primo cortometraggio, Bilakoro, e nel 1995 il lungometraggio d'esordio Keita! L'héritage du griot.

Dani Kouyaté (born June 4, 1961)[1] is a film director and jeli (griot) from Burkina Faso, which the BBC describes as "Africa's most important film-making country".[2]
Biography
Kouyaté was born in 1961 in Bobo-Dioulasso.[3][4] He is the son of one of the first Burkinabé actors, Sotigui Kouyaté,[2] and is a member of the Mandinka ethnic group.[5]Kouyatés have served as jelis for the Keita dynasty since the 13th century.[5] The Kouyatés guard customs, and their knowledge is authoritative amongst Mandinkas.[5] Keitas have to provide amenities to Kouyatés, who in turn should not hesitate to ask for Keita help.[5] The word Kouyaté translates as "there is a secret between you and me".[5]
The junior Kouyaté trained at the Institute Africain d'Education Cinématographique in Burkina Faso's capital of Ouagadougou before travelling to France for five years of study at the Sorbonne where he obtained a Master's degree in Cultural and Soc
