About the President
Mark C. Reed is the 25th president of Loyola University Chicago. One of the world’s leading Jesuit research universities, Loyola is also among the largest and most complex, with nearly 17,000 students, 13 colleges and schools, and four campuses in the greater Chicago area and one in Rome, Italy.
Prior to Loyola, Dr. Reed served for seven years as the first lay president of Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA. Before that, he served for fifteen years in multiple senior leadership roles, including senior vice president for administration and chief of staff, at Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT, where he was also honored with the Distinguished Faculty-Administrator Award.
Dr. Reed’s career has focused on strengthening the institutions he has served, particularly in the areas of expanded academic programs, academic excellence and impactful research, strategic partnerships, university finances and endowment, student formation, and advancement of the Jesuit, Catholic mission. Biography
I do research on ecosystem markets and environmental governance, and I study how researchers can generate and share their knowledge so they can change the world. I am Director of SRUC's Natural Capital Challenge Centre, CEO of Fast Track Impact, Research Lead for the IUCN UK Peatland Programme where I sit on the Executive Board of the Peatland Code, and I co-chair UNEP’s Global Peatland Initiative Research Working Group.

Mark C Reed is an American academic administrator who is the 25th president of Loyola University of Chicago in Chicago.[1] Prior to his tenure at Loyola, Reed served as the first lay president of St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia.
Early life and education
Reed was born in Philadelphia, and grew up in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. In 1992, he graduated from St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia. He earned a B.S. in mathematics from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut, in 1996, where he was elected student-body president and received the Loyola Medal in recognition of his outstanding service to the university.
He went on to earn an M.Ed. in secondary school administration from the Boston College Lynch School of Education in 1999, an MBA from the Fairfield University Dolan School of Business in 2002, and an Ed.D. in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania in 2008.[2]
