Dr. Alan W. Mills is Director of Bands and Professor of Music at Colorado State University-Pueblo. His duties include conducting the Wind Ensemble and University Band, directing the ThunderWolves Marching Band, overseeing the development of the concert band and athletic band programs, supervising student teachers, and teaching music education courses. Prior to joining the CSU-Pueblo faculty, he served as the Associate Director of Bands at Texas A&M University-Commerce, where his responsibilities included conducting the Symphonic Band, serving as director of the Pride Marching Band, and teaching courses in conducting, music education, music technology, and jazz history.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Mills has presented research lectures at state music education association conferences in Colorado and Wyoming, and additional scholarly writings can be found in the Journal of Band Research and in several editions of the popular textbook series Teaching Music Through Performance In Band. Alan MillsCM (born Albert Miller; September 7, 1912 or 1913 – June 14, 1977 )[1] was a Canadian folksinger,[2] writer, and actor. He was best known for popularizing Canadian folk music,[3][4] and for his original song, I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. He appeared on several radio and television programs and in movies.
Career
As a young man, Mills worked as a newspaperman. He left this work in about 1940 and took a job in radio.[5] He hosted a show for CBC radio on which he played Canadian folk music.
Mills began singing and recording traditional music from Canada, accompanying himself on guitar.[6][7] His first album, Let's Sing a Little, was released by RCA Victor.[5][8] He composed the classic folk song I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly (with lyrics by Rose Bonne)[9][10] which was later
