Today, Monday, September 25, 2023, is exactly twenty (20) years that Nigeria’s most intellectually gifted Senate President, Senator (Dr) Chuba Okadigbo, popularly known as “Oyi of Oyi” passed on.
Chuba, as he was fondly called, died late evening of Thursday, September 25, 2003, while being rushed to the National Hospital Abuja, following a medical complication arising from a tear gas substance sprayed by the police on him and on former President Muhammadu Buhari, along with other defunct All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) politicians, during a party rally at the Kano Stadium. He was eventually buried on Saturday, December 5, 2003.

Margery Chuba-Okadigbo is a Nigerian lawyer and former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria during Goodluck Ebele Jonathan's led government, spouse of the late Chuba Okadigbo who was appointed as chairman of the board and management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited by President Mohammadu Buhari's administration.[1][2][3]
Personal life
Margery lost her husband on September 25, 2003, due to breathing problems, and on May 29, 2018, she lost a son, Obiajulu Jideofor Okadigbo in a cold-related illness. Margery's eldest son Pharaoh Okadigbo died on May 21, 2021, in a motor accident. President Muhammadu Buhari through a statement issued by his special adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina commiserated with the family.[4]

Chuba Wilberforce Okadigbo (; 17 December 1941 – 25 September 2003), was a Nigerian politician, philosopher, academic, writer and political scientist. He served as the 8th president of the Nigerian Senate[1] from 1999 to 2000. Sometimes referred to as Oyi of Oyi in reference to his local government area (Oyi), he held numerous political positions in the Nigerian government and was known to have opposed the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party, which was led by President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Born in Asaba, Delta State, Chuba hailed from Umueri, Ogbunike, a town in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.[1] After graduating from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., with a masters in political science, Chuba went further by acquiring two doctorate degrees, in philosophy and political science in Washington, D.C.
