Meredith Vieira was born on December 30, 1953, in Rhode Island. She was born to Mary Elsie who was a homemaker and Edwin Vieira who was a medical doctor. She was brought up alongside three older brothers. She attended Lincoln School. She graduated from the school in 1971. She later attended Tufts University. In 1975, she graduated from the university with a Degree in English.




Career

In 1975, Meredith Vieira became a news announcer for WORC radio in Massachusetts. She did the afternoon drive news during the ‘B. J. Dean Show’. She later became a local reporter and anchor at WJAR-TV in Providence. In 1979, she became an investigative reporter for WCBS-TV in New York. She held the position until 1982. Meredith Louise Vieira (born December 30, 1953) is an American broadcast journalist and television personality.[1] She is best known as the original moderator of the daytime talk show The View (1997–2006), the original host of the syndicated daytime version of the game showWho Wants to Be a Millionaire (2002–2013), and as co-host of the NBCmorning news programToday (2006–2011). As of 2019[update], she hosts the syndicated weekday game show 25 Words or Less.

Vieira has also been a contributor to Dateline NBC, Rock Center with Brian Williams, and NBC Nightly News, and hosted the Lifetime television series Intimate Portrait (1994–2005). From 2014 to 2016, she hosted her own syndicated daytime talk show, The Meredith Vieira Show.

Meredith Vieira is a television journalist whose credits include work on CBS’s 60 Minutes and ABC’s The View and five years as co-host of NBC’s Today show. Meredith Vieira got her start as a radio news announcer in Worcester, Massachusetts, after graduating with a degree in English from Tufts University (1975). She was recruited in 1977 by WJAR-TV in Providence, Rhode Island, and her talent for human interest stories quickly earned her a job with WCBS in New York. She spent three years there before joining the CBS network as a national reporter. She thrived in TV’s news-magazine format and appeared on West 57th (1985-89) before joining 60 Minutes in 1989. Vieira’s departure from CBS in 1991 made headlines, with Vieira choosing family over work (CBS wanted her to work full-time, she wanted to work part-time). Meredith Vieira jumped to ABC and was on the news magazine show Turning Point (1993-97) before giving up her roaming reporter days in 1997 to settle in with Barbara Walters and Star Jones on the daytime chat
